Celebrating Shark Week at Hickory Creek

From July 8th to July 12th, Hickory Creek of Athens transformed into a sea of fun and excitement as we celebrated Shark Week with our residents. The week was filled with engaging activities, thrilling movies, and delicious treats, making it a JAW-SOME experience for everyone. We kicked off the week with a screening of “Under Paris,” a new shark thriller on Netflix that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.



On Tuesday, we celebrated National Sugar Cookie Day with shark-shaped cookies, which were a big hit. Residents enjoyed playing "Feed the Shark" and had fun with shark-themed coloring sheets in the evening. Wednesday was our much-anticipated Beach Party. The day featured a “Shark-cuterie” sandwich board, watermelons carved into shark shapes, and Jimmy Buffett tunes creating the perfect beach vibe. Residents filled out cards with their “Shark” names and made ocean sun catchers for our craft activity.



Thursday brought out the excitement with a shark scavenger hunt. Staff and residents searched the facility for hidden sharks, turning them in for prizes. The week culminated in Ocean BINGO on Friday, where plush sharks were handed out as prizes. Throughout the week, we also shared fascinating shark facts, such as how coconuts are more dangerous than sharks, sharks can lose more than 30,000 teeth in a lifetime, and how hammerheads have a 360-degree view.

Shark Week at Hickory Creek was nothing short of spectacular, leaving everyone with wonderful memories and a greater appreciation for these incredible sea creatures.
