Hickory Creek Celebrates Margarite's U.S. Citizenship!

November 17, 2022
Hickory Creek loves to celebrate our residents through their walks of life. We want to be there for them, whether it's cheering alongside them for their achievements or picking them up if they're ever feeling low. We've recently had the privilege of celebrating Margarite in her latest victory.

Margarite has been a resident at Hickory Creek for close to six years. She is a retired school teacher, a talented artist and the mother of twins. Margarite is also the Resident Council President at Hickory Creek and she is involved in nursing home advocacy on various levels.

She came to the U.S. from the Netherlands 17 years ago. Margarite made one of the most important decisions and began the process of becoming a U.S. citizen. Upon becoming a U.S. citizen, you are rewarded with all the rights, privileges and obligations that are part of U.S. citizenship. Becoming a citizen through naturalization is a process in which a non-U.S. citizen voluntarily becomes an American citizen, who owes their allegiance to the United States, is entitled to its protection, and, importantly, earns the right to vote and have a voice in how our nation is governed.

On October 5, 2022, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services came to Hickory Creek to perform the citizen test and ultimately swore Margaretha in as a U.S. citizen. Staff held a congratulatory celebration for Margarite after the ceremony.

Congratulations on this momentous day, Margarite!
